Post a job for a tradesperson
Posting a job is the fastest way to find someone to complete work at your property. You describe what needs doing once, add your postcode, and local tradespeople who cover your area and your trade can express interest. It's free, there's no obligation to hire, and your contact details stay private until you choose to share them.
What to include in your job post
The quality of the quotes you get is largely decided before anyone replies. Five things make the difference.
Say what needs doing
Describe the outcome in plain language, not the method. Include the scale — number of rooms, rough measurements, how many items — and the condition of what is there now.
Add your location
A postcode gets you a better response than a town name, because tradespeople can see exactly how far the job is and whether parking or access will be an issue.
Add photos
A wide shot of the area, a close-up of the problem, and one of anything awkward. Three good photos remove most of the guesswork from a quote.
Give your timescales
Say whether it's an emergency, whether you're flexible, or whether the work has to fit around a fixed date. 'As soon as possible' means different things to different people.
Say who supplies materials
This changes quotes more than almost anything else. Name the products if you've chosen them, or say you'd like the tradesperson to specify and give a rough budget level.
An example of a good job post
"Full bathroom refit in a 1930s semi, upstairs. Room is roughly 2.4m x 1.8m. Removing the existing bath, basin and toilet and replacing with a bath with shower over, a vanity unit and a close-coupled toilet. Full tiling to the shower wall, half height elsewhere. The existing tiles are on plaster and will need removing. We're supplying the sanitaryware; we'd like you to supply everything else. Looking to start within the next month, and we're flexible on exact dates."

- Is posting a job free?
- Yes. Posting a job on Find A Trade Local is completely free for homeowners, and there is no obligation to hire anyone who responds.
- How quickly will tradespeople respond?
- For common trades in populated areas, interest usually arrives within a few hours. Specialist work and rural postcodes can take a day or two.
- Will my phone number be published?
- No. Your contact details are not shown on the job. Tradespeople message you through the site, and you decide when to share direct contact details.
